Eleanor Phelps took an around the world cruise on the S.S. Laconia in 1922. The University of South Carolina Libraries has her travel diaries from the trip including photographs and souvenirs from her journeys from New York through Asia. Years later the Laconia would be drafted into World War II and would meet its demise at the hands of a German U-boat in September of 1942.
