fortified biscuit from the British Antarctic Expedition of 1907-1909, just auctioned off for almost $2000 petty officer Frank Wild recounted Ernest Shackleton’s gift of his breakfast biscuit as the men rationed food in grueling conditions:  “I do not suppose that anyone else in the world can thoroughly realise how much generosity and sympathy was shown by this; I DO by GOD I shall never forget it.
